Many female acne sufferers are trapped in an endless
and enormously expensive search for that special
cream, cleanser, foundation, moisturizer, astringent,
toner, or facial mask that will solve their complexion
problem.” They scan the pages of women’s
magazines, pour over each new ad or linger at cosmetic counters for the latest advice. Many are
helplessly gullible about the claims for each new
skin-care product. They hear about some new “hypo-allergenic,” “natural” or “medicated” product,
with some lovely-sounding promise and can’t keep
from picking it up just on the off chance it might
work some magic.
Young women, as well as increasing numbers of men,
are particularly vulnerable to gracious, reassuring European ladies with beautiful skin and thick
accents who tell them they can solve their “problem.” Suddenly, they find themselves in yet another salon,
having yet another facial, trying yet another new method to transform acne skin into a “peaches and
cream complexion”. All this adds up in the pocketbook and the wasted expense is not the worst
of it. Many of these skin-care products and procedures will make acne worse8. Throw out the
creams and dreams. Your answer is not in a cosmetic bottle. We’ll go into more detail in Chapter
9.
