Until a few years ago, this myth that no treatment
works was often true. Research into acne had
shamefully lagged behind. The medical
establishment had long failed the acne sufferer.
Along with many others, I have been through the mill
with x-ray treatments, vaccines, sunlamp treatments,
oral antibiotics, diets and vitamins. You name it; the
treatments I tried as a youth represent the history of
acne treatment failures of the twentieth century!
Those days are over. Successful treatment is now
possible. The shame is that so many young acne
sufferers still believe the myth that nothing works
and, thus, don’t even try to seek treatment. Since
acne usually runs in families, most new acne victims
know of uncles, parents or older brothers and sisters
who tried to get help and had bad experiences.
A slight variation of the “no treatment works” myth is
I can’t afford to seek treatment; it’s just too expensive.
Whenever someone says that, I suspect that they are
really saying, “If I spend money on treating my acne,
it won’t do any good and I’ll just be throwing money
away.” I don’t know too many people who actually
would be unwilling to spend some money to avoid a
lifetime with a scarred face. In fact, I can’t count the
number of women I talked with while writing this
book who said, “I would have paid a million dollars
for treatment that worked,” or “I would have sold my
soul to the devil or mortgaged my entire life to get
treatment that worked.”
The solution to your acne problem will not require a
lot of money and it’s far, far short of selling your house or your soul! In fact, the solution you’ll
discover in this book will probably cost less than
what you are now spending to rid yourself of acne.
As usual, the right treatment is often the cheapest
treatment. My parents spent more than $2,000 over
the years for my acne treatment, all to no avail. If
the acne is mild and the sufferer is able to use the
methods described here without the frequentsupplementation of doctor visits, he or she could
clear up the acne with non-prescription preparations
for under $200 (including the cost of this book).
