5. I DON’T HAVE ACNE, JUST “COMPLEXION PROBLEMS”

Some acne sufferers will insist that they just have oily skin, blemishes, or an allergy, but not acne!
Others have insisted there is a difference between an occasional pimple and frequent pimples. But
anatomically, through the microscope, it’s all the same. One pimple is as much acne for that
particular pore as is acne in fifty different pores. Furthermore, scars occur one pore at a time; so, even if an individual had only one bad pimple each month, he or she could acquire sixty scars during a five-year bout with acne. This is the same number a person might gather from a year of five bad lesions per month. Acne is acne, whatever the visible degree of severity.

For those who hide behind this myth, the word “acne” is so loaded... so taboo. They cannot admit, even to themselves, that they have acne. Obviously, if existence of a disease is denied, treatment cannot occur. Dodging the name of the disease will only keep it festering longer.
