No acne program can be successful without the client/patient’s active participation. Instructions must be followed. No matter which system is chosen for the client/patient , ice compresses applied to the affected area twice daily for ten minutes is strongly recommended. Ice has an anti-inflammatory effect, and decreases the number of white blood cells in the acne area, which decreases the number of papules and pustules. Ice can be applied as ice cubes wrapped in tissue or as Styrofoam cups that have been filled with water and placed in the freezer.
The Balanced Irritant™ Vitamin A Propionate, a short molecular chain Vitamin A, is found exclusively in Vivant’s Vitamin A based skin conditioners. Through enzymatic activity the skin converts the Vitamin A Propionate into Retin A®, which gives you the effect of Retin A® without the irritating side effects and the same degree of increased photosensitivity. As the surface cells of the epidermis are gently but rapidly exfoliated the sludged up cells in the follicle are pushed toward the surface and new cells that are produced at the dermal level do not cohere as they do in untreated skin. This action of cell renewal forces (called Adamosis) the open and closed comedones to the surface so that they are more easily extracted, and the collagen at the dermal level increases to give a smoother appearance to the skin
Two different Vivant systems, each containing four products, are available for treating acne: Clear Complexion System I and Clear Complexion System II. These two targeted treatments for controlling acne are designed to cleanse, tone, treat and protect acne prone skin. They will dramatically reduce the breakout cycle and the stress that it causes thus producing less acne.
See Clear Complexion System I and II
Adjunct Treatments The following adjunct treatments can be combined with the two systems to attack acne more aggressively.
Glycolic Skin Fitness Pads are available in 5% and 10% strengths for home use and in 20% and 30% for professional use. They can be used on all skin types as an exfoliator to help control acne.
Benzoyl Peroxide 10% in a water base gel penetrates down into the pore and kills the Corynebacterium acnes, the bacteria that aggravates acne. To boost treatment this product can be used for a few hours a day.
Mandelic Acid is a two pronged approach to treating acne. It is a good antibacterial that used consistently will improve post inflammatory hyper pigmentation. Results are often superior to those obtained from tropical hydroquinone.
Therapeutic Clay Mask, a thick clay mask with 10% sulfur acts as an astringent for excessively oily skin. Use as a deep pore cleanser.
Pro peel is a safe professional peel, which comes in several different strengths to give you the maximum boost in acne therapy. It gives a deeper peel than the glycolic pads, and may be your best weapon against treating severe acne. (Can only be done in professional setting)
Acne Extractors for extracting closed and open comedones, these are the same high quality stainless steel Schaumburg extractors that Dr. Fulton uses in his practice.
